Canadian Singer the TheWeeknd will perform 2021 Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show on Feb. 7 in Tampa Bay, Florida, USA. NFL Committee has confirmed this news. The Half time show will jointly sponsored by PEPSI and the NFL’s live music entertainment strategist partner Roc Nation. Roc nation and PEPSI sponsored last year super bowl half time show.
The Weeknd said that “We all grow up watching the world’s biggest acts playing the Super Bowl and one can only dream of being in that position, and said that “I’m humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage this year.
Last year Super Bowl 2020 was performed by Shakira & J. Lo’s which was watched by more than 120 million people. NFL Committee is hoping that this year more than 140 million people will watch Half time show of Super Bowl 2021.
Who is The Weeknd?
The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel MakkonenTesfaye, who was born on February 16, 1990 in Toronto, Ontario, and was raised in Scarborough.has become one of the biggest chart stars of the last decade, with more than 45 platinum and singles and albums. Tesfaye is recognized for heavily influencing contemporary R&B and inspiring multiple artists.
His recent album After Hours topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic, while the lead single Blinding Lights became the longest-running top five single on the US Hot 100.
The 30 years old has previously won three Grammy Awards, including best urban contemporary album for 2016’s Beauty behindThe Madness and 2018’s Starboy.
He is widely expected to add to that tally at next year’s ceremony, with nominations for album of the year and song of the year on the cards when the Grammys announce their latest shortlists on 24 November.
